Card #108: Another Big Relic

I planned on getting back on track with posting on this blog 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday).  Since that commitment I have been doing a fairly good job with it.  I missed a Monday post last week and the previous week.  (Evidently Monday deadlines are tough for me)

I currently have over 300 Clemente cards in my collection so I should be good for showing off my old cards while still acquiring new cards.  I am hoping that in July I will have some free time to actually get caught up and update my haves list.

When it comes to Clemente I don't have much of the modern parallel cards.  There's literally hundreds of his cards produced each year.

The current total of Clemente cards produced according to TCDB is 4,969 cards.

In the year 2020 there has already been 77 cards produced.  In 2019 there was 365 cards produced.

I have plenty of options to continue this life long goal.

My first options are always cards that feature Clemente with McCutchen.  These two players are my two main PCs so if I can get a card featuring both them it is an automatic "I need that card."

Such was the case with this 2015 Topps Heritage High Numbers quad relic featuring Clemente, Stargell, Marte, and McCutchen.

Had Marte and McCutchen won a World Series for the franchise in the 2013-2015 stretch I could certainly see them both being long remembered in future tales of All-Time Great Pirates in the way that Wagner, Mazeroski, Clemente, Stargell, and the Waner Brothers are remembered.  McCutchen might still fall into that category despite not winning a Championship for the Steel City.
I showed off a similar card back in February 2019 when I posted this card.
I like that Topps used different photos for all the players involved between the quad relic and triple relics.

Card #83: Snow Day in May?

It's been a long, time simce I posted on here and I probably have at least 100 more cards that need to be scanned.

The other day I was watching The Rundown on MLB Network and I couldn't believe that Colorado is still cancelling games because of snow in May.  That weather is relentless.

If I were to ever live out there I know I,would be sporting a great beard like one of my current favorite big leaguers, Charlie Blackmon.
Charlie has started getting red hot at the plate lately.  It's a shame he started his career at an older age and was never a top prospect.  All he does is do professional at bat after at bat.  The guy knows how to hit.  At age 32, he doesn't look like he plans on slowing down any time soon either.

Card #66: Cutch, Pops, and the Great One

Yesterday on the MLB Network there was a few short clips about Willie Stargell and the impact he had on the game.  They ran these segments as part of Black History Month.

I realize I haven't shown as many of my Clemente hits on here as I do on Collecting Cutch, but this would be a good time to show off one of my favorites.

Topps Heritage is my favorite release now that Gypsy Queen has eliminated their miniature cards.  This card features some of the most beloved players to ever wear a Pirates uniform.

Card #56: Not Joshin Ya, These Guys Are Legends

It has been a long time since I posted on this blog.  Over 6 months actually.  I really want to get back on track with posting here more regularly.

Maybe this card Will help bring some views back?

This 2018 Heritage High Number Clubhouse Collection quad relic features a pair of Hall of Fame Pirates Legends and a pair of fan favorite Joshes.
Josh Harrison is still a free agent and will likely land a role as a utility player on a contending team looking to upgrade their bench.

Josh Bell has finally solved the platoon 1st baseman position the Pirates have employed since 2010 by being his own platoon partner with his switch hitting prowess.

If you aren't familar with Roberto Clemente or Willie Stargell, well you need to catch up on your baseball history because these guys are legends.

Card #41: Friday Flashback

Here's a 2014 Heritage recognizing a flashback to 1965 when Clemente won his 3rd batting title.

The back details how he accomplished the feat by going 2 for 4 on the final day of the season and hitting a homerun that gave the Bucs the lead.

Card #20: Miggy Miggy Miggy can't ya see...

I have to admit I both love and hate the idea of posting 3,000 unique Roberto Clemente cards.  If I post one card each day it will take me nearly 8 years to show them off.  On top of it I will need to acquire Clemente cards at a rapid rate (similar to what I did with Cutch).

I still have over 200 cards to scan and post, but if anyone has any Clemente cards for trade please keep me in mind.

Today's card is a Topps Heritage Then & Now that compares the stat leaders of the original set's Year's leader and whoever lead the year the card was produced.

This particular card looks at the 2013 Batting Title Leaders compared to the 1965.  The 2014 Heritage set is based on the 1965 set.

Roberto Clemente lead the majors in hitting in 1965 with a .329 average.
Miguel Cabrera lead the majors in hitting in 2013 with a .348 average.

The back of the card is worth looking at as the 10th best hitter in baseball that year was Andrew McCutchen who batted .317.  That would have tied him with Willie Mays in 1965, good for 4th best.

Card #4: Clubhouse Collection Dual Relic

I had shown many dual relic cards of Clemente with Cutch on my Collecting Cutch blog.

Here's the most recent I showed off.

From 2017 Heritage is a dual relic Clubhouse Collection numbered 62/68.

I wish the backs would have more information about the players.
