Card #105: Only The Select

I recently picked up another of the 1994 All-Star Game cards featuring Roberto Clemente.

Attendants at the All-Star Game could receive cards from Topps, Select, Donruss, and Upper Deck.

This is card #3 in the 5 card set.

I really like the look of this card.  It has some etching and a nice shine to it.

Cards 93-96: Secret Santa Swag Revisit

It was about 4 months ago that I posted my Secret Santa gift that Rod from Padrographs sent me.

You can revisit the entire post here from my main blog, Collecting Cutch.

I will show off all the cards he sent me again below so that it may count towards my goal of Chasing 3000.

Up first is the 1994 All-Star Game Donruss Diamond King with art by Dick Perez.

This card looks great and is part of a 5 card subset available for the 1994 All-Star Game, held in Pittsburgh.

Here is a modern take on a vintage brand.

2019 Allen & Ginter
Clemente has become a staple in the modern version of this old card branding.

I think this is my only official Topps Chrome card of Clemente.  It is from 2019 and discusses Clemente impact on the 150th Year Anniversary of the great game of baseball.

2 years earlier and this black parallel card from 2019 Faces of the Franchise would have pictured Andrew McCutchen instead of Starling Marte.
Wagner is the greatest Shortstop of All-Time.
Clemente is one of the game's greatest rightfielders of all-time and a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.
Marte became the "Face of the Franchise" for two years after Andrew McCutchen left.  While he was a solid player in Pittsburgh, he won't have the lasting impact that McCutchen had on the franchise.

The black parallel is numbered to 299 copies.

I know I said this before, but thank you, again Rod for the great Christmas gift.  I hope you,are staying safe.

Card #48: This Card is Action Packed

Hailing from 1994 comes this rounded embossed thicker stock card from one of my favorite 90s brands, Action Packed.

I remember buying lots of Action Packed football cards in the 90s hoping to get some sweet looking cards.

The back of the card further talks about Clemente's humanitarian efforts.

Card #3: Only 90,000 of these were distributed

Hop back in time with me to 1994.
The hottest movies were The Lion King, Forrest Gump, and Pulp Fiction.
O.J. Simpson, one of the nation's beloved sports entertainment guys was being held on trial for the murder of two cases.
Michael Jordan, fresh from his NBA retirement was trying his baseball career.
The most popular comic books were Spawn and Adventures of Superman.
And nearly every food market had a unique spin on trading cards.  Wendy's, not to be out done by Denny's and McDonald's produced a hologram set of cards, but limited the production to only 90,000 cards.

Only 90,000 existed!!!!

With so few produced, it's amazing that these can still be had for a George Washington.

But, I remember a few years ago grabbing one of these Roberto Clemente Wendy's cards for $1 at a local mall card show.

Despite the strangeness of the card, it does feature a nice green holgram of Clemente swinging at a baseball.

The back indicates the rarity of this card.

ONLY 90,000!!!!!

But it also has a nice collection of basic stats in addition to Roberto's career accomplishments.
